EcoDesign and compliance club for consumer electronics
Helping you design greener products, prepare for compliance with the EuP Directive and implement the draft IEC 62430 standard
Why join the EcoDesign club
Regulatory requirements and customer pressures for EcoDesign of consumer electronics are increasing. At the same time, companies who adopt a best practice approach to EcoDesign can gain cost savings and marketing benefits.
EuP Directive compliance
The EcoDesign Requirements for Energy Using Products (EuP) Directive provides a framework for setting EcoDesign requirements for groups of products. Manufacturers must introduce design changes which reduce the environmental impact of their products across the life-cycle, with a particular focus on energy.

Possibility of receiving CERT funding from British Gas
The club assists manufacturers to design more energy efficient products so that they may gain benefits through the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) programme. The club is working with British Gas who will seek CERT approval from Ofgem in order to provide funding to manufacturers whose products deliver significant energy savings.

How the club works
The environmental design and compliance club trains and supports consumer electronics manufacturers to use our web-based environmental design and compliance system, so that logging into www.consumer-ecodesign.com becomes an integral part of the company's new product design process.

Standards compliant auditable system
The web-based system complies with the draft International Standard IEC 62430: Environmentally Conscious Design of Electrical and Electronic Products and Systems. The system contains checklists and worksheets which the product design team completes to address design and compliance requirements at each stage of the new product design processs and generate compliance evidence for IEC 62430. Implementing the standard has customer marketing benefits.
